Will We Recognize the King?

Elul calls us to teshuvah—to come before HaShem with open hearts and allow Him to search not only our actions, but also the ways we have learned to see. Sometimes what needs repentance is not only what we have done, but what we have believed, assumed, feared, or carried from the past.

This lies at the heart of TJCII’s calling.

For generations, Jews and Christians have often looked at one another through layers of painful history, theological misunderstanding, rejection, fear, and mistrust. These things do not disappear simply because we desire reconciliation. They must be brought into the light of HaShem.

And we must also ask whether these same layers have affected how we see Yeshua Himself. Elul gives us the image of the King in the field—the King has drawn near. But the question is: will we recognize Him?

Will we recognize Yeshua as the Jewish Messiah, the King of Israel, and the hope of the nations? Or have inherited theology, fear, painful history, and old assumptions affected the way we see Him?

And if our vision of Yeshua has been distorted, how has that also affected the way Jews and Gentiles see one another? This is where reconciliation must begin.

Not simply with a desire to come together, but with teshuvah—with allowing HaShem to expose what has shaped our vision and to teach us to see rightly.

The King is in the field.

Will we recognize Him—and will we allow Him to change the way we see one another?
